The highest population of dogs for any country in the world is the USA which also has the highest number of dogs per capita with about 215 pet dogs per 1000 people. There is an estimated 61.1 million pet dogs in the United States. Brazil is the new number 2 in the pet dog population stakes with over 30 million dogs and China comes in third with almost 23 million dogs. France which had the second largest population of pet dogs for many years has slipped to 7th in the world. While Australia did not feature in the top 10 based on total population of pet dogs, it does have the forth highest per capita ownership of pet dogs.
